A Historic House With a Much Newer Fragrance Story

Trudon traces its history to 1643, when Claude Trudon operated a store on rue Saint-Honoré in Paris selling spices and candles. In 1719, the candle manufacture associated with the Trudon story became a Royal Manufacture. Fine fragrance came much later: Trudon launched its first five perfumes in 2017.

That timeline is more interesting than compressing four centuries into a claim that the house has been making perfume since the seventeenth century. Candle history is the foundation; modern fine fragrance is a newer chapter.

Midnight Omen: Orris, Violet and Leather

Midnight Omen combines saffron, orris, peony and mandarin with violet, leather, patchouli, mossy-earthy facets and woods. Of the three, it occupies the most powdery-floral territory.

The tension is what makes it worth sampling: orris and violet can feel refined and cosmetic, while leather, patchouli, moss and saffron pull the composition somewhere darker and drier. If you tend to think of “dark fragrance” only as oud, smoke or heavy amber, Midnight Omen gives you another route.

Mystique: The Oud and Wood Direction

Mystique moves further into woody, leathery and oud-centered territory. Its current NBB note structure includes saffron, leather and cedar above agarwood, papyrus and sandalwood, with animalic and metallic facets adding edge.

This is the Nuit Rouge option to compare when you want less powder and more dryness, wood and leather-like depth. It is not automatically “better” because it is darker or more challenging; it simply occupies a different part of the collection.

45 Degrees: Honey and Vanilla Warmth

45 Degrees changes the temperature of the group. Honey and bergamot lead into vanilla absolute, vanilla and woody-amber materials, creating a sweeter profile built around ambered spice and vanilla.

Put beside Mystique and Midnight Omen, it makes the collection easier to understand. Nuit Rouge is not one repeated leather-and-oud formula. The three fragrances move from powdery floral leather, to oud and dry woods, to honeyed vanilla warmth.
